How did you meet your honey?

Here's something fun, folks. I'm looking for the BEST OF THE BEST stories about how you met your husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend. Keep it clean, now - G rated only, please. :)

Warning: You may find some version of your story in an upcoming novel!

Use the comment link below to send me your funniest...most romantic...most unusual...most unbelievable...(you get the idea)...story about first meetings - yours or someone you know, I don't care if they don't.

If I choose to have my hero/heroine meet the same way you and your sweetheart met, I'll send you a free signed copy of the book IF AND WHEN it's published. In the meantime, we'll all have the fun of reading everyone's great tales of romance in the making. :)

Hop right in...don't be shy!

Off to see the ... well, not the wizard!

It is 10:38 p.m. on Friday night.

I really should be in bed, because my alarm is going to ring at 3:30 a.m. When it does, I will rise (groggily, I'm sure) from my bed, peer through blurry eyes to put on my face and whip my hair into some semblance of order. Then my husband and I will climb into the car we borrowed from our son Obie, and be off to see ... well, certainly not the wizard. We're off to see friends and family and parts of the U.S. we've never seen before. Oh, what fun!

We will take with us lots of things that I spent all day packing. (Ugh!) And I have decided we will also take a few things that aren't so easily stuffed into suitcases, boxes and bags.

Courage: Truly! In my opinion, it takes plenty of chutzpah to crawl into a little box on wheels and face thousands of miles of endless highway. It's either crawling with traffic made up of impatient, angry, sleepy and/or intoxicated drivers...or there's nothing. Mile after mile after endless mile of nothing but another stretch of highway and not a soul in sight. So what happens when the tire blows or the engine gets hot or the transmission drops out from under? (Shudder!) It brings to mind far too many scary movies I suddenly wish I hadn't watched.

Heart: Caring about all those impatient, angry, sleepy and/or intoxicated drivers enough to stay sweet, calm, alert and sober while driving. Loving the friends and family at the "end" of the road enough to fold our bodies into that little box on wheels and endure the stiffness and soreness and swollen feet just so we can see them again. Loving each other enough to enjoy (or endure) the long hours and endless miles of only each other for company. Yes...we'll need lots of "heart."

A Brain: It's good to be able to know when it's time to leave each destination and move on to the next. It's good to think about the fact that our hosts/hostesses are not on vacation. They've worked all day, wrestled with children, dealt with aging parents and unhappy customers. Their lives are still "business as usual," and while I hope they'll be glad to see us, I'm sure they'll also be somewhat relieved to see us go. So we'll be smart enough to do that before their bittersweet good-byes become thinly disguised hallelujahs.

And in a few weeks, we'll slip our feet into shiny "red shoes," click our heels together, and - by then - I'm sure we'll wholeheartedly believe there's no place like home!
